YouTube ends testing forcing users to watch large, non-skippable ads

Several users last week complained about seeing large, non-skippable ads on YouTube. The video streaming platform is testing to show up to 10 non-skippable ads while watching videos. Now, after complaints and frustrations from users on Reddit and Twitter, the company has ended the test. A YouTube spokesperson confirmed the same to 9to5Google. The spokesperson said that YouTube’s experiments with bumper ads are now ‘over’.

“At YouTube, we’re focused on helping brands connect with audiences around the world, and we’re always experimenting with new ways to show ads that enhance the viewer experience. We ran a small global test to serve multiple ads in an ad set when viewers watch longer videos on a connected TV. The goal is to create a better experience for viewers by reducing ad breaks. We ended up doing this little test,” the report quoted.

After receiving user feedback on lengthy ads via Twitter and Reddit, YouTube made it clear that this won’t happen with all videos and that the ad won’t be very long. The video streaming platform later confirmed that each ad would be just six seconds long and no more than that. It basically suggests that if there are five ads, then an individual will have to wait about 30 seconds to continue watching a YouTube video.

But with a spokesperson confirming that the advertising test is over, there will be a sigh of relief among them YouTube users. To watch any video without ads, users can purchase a YouTube Premium subscription and take advantage of some additional benefits. In India, the cost of a YouTube Premium subscription 1,290 for a year, while the YouTube Premium family plan costs 189 per month. The video company also offers a 30-day free trial for new subscribers. The second option is to use a Chrome ad blocker extension on their desktop.
