YouTube at a glance, Targeting TikTok, hits 1.5 billion monthly views – The Hollywood Reporter
As YouTube’s short-form video platform gains momentum against competitors like TikTok and Reels, more than 1.5 billion users watch Shorts content each month, the company said Wednesday.
Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai last shared in April that YouTube has 2 billion users logged in each month, while YouTube Shorts averages more than 30 billion daily views. Shorts’ monthly viewership figures contrast with TikTok’s, which said it surpassed 1 billion monthly active users last September.
YouTube’s metric counts signed-in users who watched at least one Shorts video on the platform in a one-month period, which doesn’t necessarily distinguish between users who intentionally search for Shorts videos or those who are not. people accidentally watch them while using YouTube.
According to Tara Walpert Levy, vp of YouTube Americas, YouTube creators who are uploading both short and long-form content are seeing “better overall watch time and subscriber growth” than those who are just uploaded in one format, although the company did not disclose specific figures.
“Long-term content remains the best way for creators to engage deeply and develop lasting relationships with their audiences. But Shorts provide a new, exciting way to be part of a viewer’s journey and introduce themselves and their entire portfolio to a new audience,” said Walpert Levy. “This approach is delivering real results.”
