What is vasculitis, the disease affecting vision and balance by Ashton Kutcher

Hollywood actor Ashton Kutcher’s revelation of being diagnosed with a rare form of vasculitis has the world talking about this autoimmune disease.

The ‘No Strings Attached’ and ‘Jobs’ actor talked about blood clots during an episode of the hit show ‘Running Wild With Bear Grylls: The Challenge’.

According to footage obtained by Access Hollywood, 44-year-old Kutcher said: “Like two years ago, I had this strange, super-rare form of vasculitis, it knocked my sight, it knocked my hearing. me, it’s like all my equilibrium. “

At one point, the actor even said that he felt “lucky to be alive”. When faced with an unprecedented situation, he is not sure if he will “never be able to see again… (or) be able to hear again… (or) be able to walk”.

Millions of his fans around the globe have expressed concern, but Kutcher was quick to provide updates on the health situation via Twitter. He made it clear that he was diagnosed with vasculitis, an inflammation of the blood vessels, about 3 years ago, and that he has now recovered.

What is vasculitis?

The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute defines vasculitis as a group of rare conditions that occur when swelling affects the walls of your blood vessels. By vascular, we mean veins and arteries. The swelling is the body’s response to tissue damage, which can be caused by an autoimmune disorder or diseases that cause your body to attack itself, an infection, or even an injury.

Vasculitis does not fall into one category and does not discriminate by sex. There are different names for different parts of the body where the condition occurs – from the lungs and kidneys, nose and throat, brain and spine, etc.

Symptoms of vasculitis

Symptoms of vasculitis can vary depending on the organ affected, and the severity of the condition can range from mild to severe. But some common symptoms can include fever, fatigue, pain, weight loss, and rash. As was the case with Ashton Kutcher, a person may feel symptoms in the parts of the body affected.

As for treatment, medications can be relied upon to ease symptoms and prevent flare-ups. That’s a good sign if the vasculitis is responding to treatment.
