West Indies quick pitcher Obed McCoy reckons Rohit Sharma’s early strike gave his team momentum in their second T20I game against India on Monday, August 1 at Warner Park in St Kitts. McCoy was dropped from the India captaincy for a golden duck after the home team chose to enter the front field.
Rohit scored a half-century winning streak in the first T20I at Brian Lara Stadium, but failed to make any impact in the second. McCoy, on the other hand, went on to win the Player of the Match award after he won a six-pointer and also bowled a girl in his four-pass quota.
“It is a great feeling to play against a top team like India. They have a lot of T20 stars and they play great cricket all the time. I won’t say I have a favorite racquet, but I’m happy to have eliminated Rohit because he made some runs in the previous innings he played.
“I think that put the rest of the players under pressure to lose to him early in the game,” McCoy said in his post-match press conference.
“Rohit’s hit gave us momentum. Adding bounces off the pitch really helps. It’s just about hitting the right area and getting the batters to play where you want,” he added.
Earlier, during the post-match introduction, McCoy dedicated his wonderful bowling spell to his ailing mother.
Following McCoy’s spell, the West Indies beat India with five goals in their second T20I game and equalized in a five-match series. While chasing 139, Brandon King and Devon Thomas’ unbeaten record of 19-31 sent the Caribbean team over the finish line.
The third T20I is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, August 2 at the same location in St Kitts.
