Weather Update: IMD predicts heavy rainfall in these states; check forecast here


The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted extreme rainfall in western and central India from August 7-9.

Currently, the southern state of Kerala is facing heavy rainfall. The IMD has predicted widespread rains in Kerala from August 4 to 8 and warned that the state is likely to experience extreme rainfall isolated over its Ghats. More than 2,000 people are in relief camps across the State. So far, six deaths have been reported in Kerala due to heavy rain.

Earlier, IMD had predicted intense rain activity is likely to continue over the Southern Peninsula including Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka for the next three days and decrease thereafter.

It forecasted isolated heavy falls Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal and Rayalaseema on August 6 and over Telangana, Coastal & North Interior Karnataka, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam and Kerala & Mahe for the period from August 6 to August 9.

The IMD has also predicted very heavy rainfall isolated today over Karnataka and inland south Karnataka during August 5-8.

Extensive rainfall was common with isolated downpours and abundant thunderstorms/lightning over Tamil Nadu Puducherry & Karaikal and Rayalaseema on 6 August and over Telangana, Coastal & North Interior Karnataka, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam and Kerala & Mahe from August 5 to August 9, and Inland Karnataka between August 5 and 8, 2022.

Isolating very heavy rainfall is possible over Karnataka on August 6; Telangana during August 5-9 and coastal Andhra Pradesh on August 8 and 9.

Isolated extreme rainfall is also likely on the South Karnataka Coast and Inland on August 5 and over Telangana on August 8 and 9, 2022.

Fairly widespread rainfall with isolated downpours and thunderstorms/lightning very likely in Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat State, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada and Konkan & Goa between August 5 until August 9th.

Isolated very heavy rainfall is also possible over Madhya Pradesh and Saurashtra & Kutch on 8 and 9 August; on Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh from 7 to 9 August; through the Gujarat Region on the 5th, 8th and 9th; through Konkan & Goa and the ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra between August 5-9, 2022.

Isolated extreme rainfall is also likely over Vidarbha and Gujarat Region on 9 August; through Chhattisgarh, Konkan & Goa and ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra on 8th & 9th August.

Precipitation is fairly common with the stated heavy rainfall and thunderstorms/lightning possible over Jharkhand on August 6 and Odisha and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura during August 5-9; Via Gangetic West Bengal on August 9, and through Assam & Meghalaya on August 6 and 7, 2022.

Isolated very heavy rainfall is also possible on Odisha between August 7 and 9.

Isolated extreme rainfall is also possible over Odisha on August 8 and 9.

Widespread rainfall forecast with isolated heavy downpours and thunderstorms/lightning very likely in Himachal Pradesh, Western Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand during August 5-7; via Eastern Rajasthan from 5 to 9 August; through Western Rajasthan on 8 and 9 August.

Isolated very heavy rainfall is also possible over Eastern Rajasthan between 7 and 9 August.
