Watch Argentine goalkeeper score from goal kick from the other end; is this a Guinness World Record?

In Cobresal’s 3-1 win over Colo-Colo in Chile’s top soccer league, Argentine goalkeeper Leandro Requena scored what could have been the longest range goal in history. Requena made a seemingly innocuous goal kick as his team took a 2-0 lead in the 77th minute.

The ball bounced past Colo-Colo goalkeeper Brayan Cortés, who was outside the box and went all the way across. According to TNT Sports Chile, the goal was scored from a distance of 101 meters, breaking the current record of 96.01 meters set by Tom King in 2021.

Requena told Radio Bio Bio that the distance of the goal could be more than 100 meters because the area of a professional football field is 5 meters and the size of the field is 105 meters by 68 meters. He expressed his personal satisfaction and happiness for the Chilean club and football, as being a part of such an event and making history pleased him.

Requena also revealed that Cobresal’s 2,400 meters above sea level may have contributed to his remarkable goal. He wants to take a quick kick, as his team has done many times at high altitude, to catch his opponent off guard.

Requena’s goal led Cobresal’s manager, Juan Silva, to register for the Guinness World Records. In an interview with Radio Bio Bio, Requena said that he asked Juan about the possibility of applying for a profile and was told that an application would definitely be submitted.

The current size recommended by FIFA for a professional football field is 105 meters by 68 meters, with an area of 5 meters. Requena estimates that his goal is over 100 meters long because of the size of the field and the distance between the penalty area and where he kicks the kick off. Guinness World Records however, have stated that they have yet to receive a record application.

Requena’s impressive goal helped Cobresal seal a 3-1 victory over Colo-Colo. It also earned him worldwide recognition for his skillful execution, which could lead to a Guinness World Record.
