A photo showing a car park reserved for women is gaining attention on social networking platform Reddit. While the post doesn’t describe the exact location where the photo was clicked, the title talks about such initiatives in South Korea, China, and Germany. The four pink parking spots visible in the picture appear to have been clicked inside a shopping mall. These longer, wider, and pink-rimmed sections are exclusively for women. The post has received more than 28,000 upvotes and over 3,700 comments since it was posted four days ago.
One of the users who commented on the post sparked a debate, saying these reserved parking spots are not only for pregnant women but for families with young children/infants. Users also say that these parking spaces are often found in larger cities.
One user wrote: “I can totally understand people getting upset when women have their own parking spaces. It’s sad that the society we live in needs this to help women feel safe.”
Another said, “There’s a real answer. Being only women is the result of a problem we shouldn’t have. But also, everyone is selfish and hates to hear about other people’s work. get the help/protection they can’t.”
However, some users appreciate the initiative. “The idea is good but leaving the entire parking area lit is also a good idea,” one of the comments said.
The South Korean government opened these special women-only parking spots in Seoul in 2014 to make the capital more female-friendly. The city has spent about $100 million on such initiatives, including parking lots dubbed “parking spots.”
Germany started this initiative in 2012, in the town of Tribeg.
In addition to these countries, Kuwait, Malaysia, Indonesia, Austria and Italy also have dedicated parking spots for women.
