Varanasi: Prohibitory orders imposed ahead of Gyanvapi case court order

Security was tightened and bans were imposed in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh ahead of a district court order on Monday amid the Gyanvapi Mosque case. District Judge AK Vishvesh last month reserved the order until September 12 on a sensitive community matter.

Police Commissioner A Satish Ganesh said on Sunday that bans had been issued within the Varanasi commission and officers had been asked to interact with religious leaders in their respective areas to ensure that peace is maintained.

He said, in order to maintain law and order, the entire city has been divided into areas that have been allocated police forces according to their requirements.

He said directives on flag marches and marches in sensitive areas have also been issued.

Checks have been stepped up in border areas of the district, hotels and guest houses, and an eye is also being kept on social media.

Earlier, a lower court ordered a video survey of the complex. The investigation was completed on May 16 and the report was presented to the court on May 19.
