In an interview with TMZ the next day, White admitted to hitting his wife of 26 years, saying he “awkward.”
“You’ve heard me say for years, ‘Yes never an excuse for a guy to put his hand on a woman’, and now I’m here on TMZ talking about it,” White told the website.
He also said he showed his three children the video in an attempt to solve the problem and that “whatever people say (about the video) is worth it. I deserve it.”
UFC Spokesperson Chris Costello refuse to comment to The Associated Press, rather than directing the outlet to White’s comments for TMZ.
Anne White also released a statement to TMZ in which she said the behavior was “inappropriate” towards her husband.
“Dana and I have been married for almost 30 years. To say that this doesn’t suit him is an understatement. Nothing like this has ever happened before. Unfortunately, we both drank too much on New Year’s Eve and things got out of hand for both of us. We talked about this as a family and apologized to each other. I just hope people will respect our privacy for the sake of our kids.”
White speak out about domestic violence in 2014 after NFL player Ray Rice assaulted his fiancée, saying you “don’t come back after laying your hands on a woman,” according to The Guardian. “It’s been like that in the UFC since we started here.”
