ST. CHARLES, Mo. (KMOV) – A big makeover began Monday on one of the fireplaces in St. Charles. In the coming months, another firehouse will receive some upgrades.
City of St. Charles plans to completely replace Firehouse 3 here on Elm Street. The existing fire station has a number of structural problems, including flooding problems and electrical hazards that the city says need costly repairs.
Another big reason, the firehouse is not big enough to accommodate more modern fire trucks. The rebuild, which could be done after the passage of Measure R, is expected to be completed in about 18 months.
Station 2 has dealt with a similar problem since it was built in 1956. Upgrades will begin in November or December.
Both areas are prime locations in terms of response times. Groundbreaking on Monday at 9am
