To identify quacks, medicos asked to use DigiLocker

NEW DELHI : The Center has directed the National Medical Council (NMC) to ensure medical students upload documents related to their degrees and certificates to the government’s DigiLocker service to limit the growing number vagabond pretending to be a doctor with a fake medical degree.

According to the Indian Medical Association, there are around one million fake doctors in India, posing a threat to the healthcare system.

The DigiLocker system will allow medical students to receive authenticated educational documents and certificates in digital format directly from the issuer.

Sandhya Bhullar, secretary, NMC, has now directed all private and government medical colleges to instantly upload and register their academic credential data, such as degrees, transcripts , admission card, score card, etc., on the DigiLocker system.

“I ask to please make sure that all medical institutions under the NMC are supported at the earliest with the NAD (National Academic Depository), Bhullar said.

The move comes after Abhishek Singh, president and chief executive officer of the national e-governance division of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Communications, wrote to NMC directing the agency under the health ministry to use Uses DigiLocker facility to store academic and student’ data.

“Digital copies made available in DigiLocker will be treated on par with the original physical document in accordance with Information Technology Rule 9A (Preservation and Retention) by the Intermediaries supplying DigiLocker devices) Rule 2016. In addition, the Ministry of Education has assigned Quoc to implement Academic Depository (NAD) through DigiLocker to facilitate students to obtain authentic educational materials in digital format online. continuing from their initial problems,” Singh said in a letter to the NMC secretary.
