Whenever you sit down and watch an F1 race these days, you hope for it’s a pretty spicy storywith close race, intense competition and some surprise DNF from unpredictable new cars. But today’s race is nothing compared to what Formula 1 was like in the 90s.
Back then, it was difficult…arrive-Automotive handling and reliability issues mean retirement is much more common. And the is 1996 Monaco Grand Prix has taken this to the next level.
BILLIONThe lights went out and 21 motorists set off around the streets of the principality on May 19, 1996. Fthe ive racers retired before the end first round. Four others were inactive on lap 10, and nine others were walking back to the garage before the checkered flag fell.

Monaco The race is one of those classic wet-to-dry situations where everyone bets on when to switch to slick tyres. It’s a storyline that always makes for an intriguing race, but I’m not sure anyone could have predicted the carnage ending that day.

Third place belongs to Sauber Driver Johnny HerbertMcLaren’s David Coulthard finished second and the win went to Olivier Panis, who was driving for Liger Mugen Honda at the time. The 1996 Monaco victory was the French driver’s only F1 win.
