India commentator Bhuvneshwar Kumar commented on Suryakumar Yadav opening half for the team in the first T20I match, saying that there could be some thought process behind the decision.

India beat the West Indies in the first T20I by 68 runs after posting a total of 190 runs in the allotted 20 laps. In response, the home team was only able to muster 122 runs.

Despite the win, one of the highlights in the game was the fact that Yadav came out with Rohit Sharma to open the scoring. Mumbai’s smasher usually comes in 3rd or 4th place and that has surprised fans and spectators present on the field.

Yadav scored 24 runs in 16 balls in the first T20I before being sacked by Akeal Hosein. Speaking about his decision to open with the Mumbai Indian hitter, Kumar admitted that he didn’t really know the reasoning behind the call.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference before the second T20I, as quoted by Crictracker, the Indian pacer said that there may have been some thought process behind the decision and it was no coincidence.

He went on to say that coach Rahul Dravid and captain Rohit Sharma wanted to achieve something with the move and there must have been some deep thought behind the call.

“I really do not know. Thought Process Itna pata hai ki zaroor kuch raha hoga (All I know is that there must be some thought process behind it). It is certainly not random. I’m sure whatever the coach and captain wants to gain from this. Honestly, I don’t know exactly what the thought process is behind it, but I’m sure there must be some deep thinking,” Kumar said.

The second T20I flight between India and the West Indies was delayed by two hours for logistical reasons. The match will start at 10pm IST.
