The Satwik-Chirag pair reverses the world No. 1 Japanese duo at the French Open | Badminton News


Top Doubles of Indian Mixed Doubles Satwiksairaj Rankedlydy and Chirag Shetty beat top seeds and former world champions, Takuro Hoki and Yugo Kobayashi of Japan, 23-21, 21-18 in the quarterfinals of the French Open BWF World Tour Super 750 tournament in Paris on Friday.

On Friday, HS Prannoy, Sameer Verma and Kidambi Srikanth lost their match in the second round of men’s singles. Lakshya Sen and Saina Nehwal lost in the first round.

Sankar secures bronze at youth worlds
Chennai Shuttler S Sankar Muthusamy is India’s only bright spot at World Junior Badminton Championship. The former world No. 1 secured a bronze medal as he advanced to the semi-finals with a hard-fought victory over China’s Hu Zhen An 21-18, 8-21, 21-16 in the quarterfinals in Santander, Spain.
Other promising names like Unnati Hooda or Anupama Upadhyaya all lost in the previous rounds.
This will be India’s 10th medal at the Youth Worlds. Young Indian players won one gold, three silver and five
bronze medal in this tournament in the past.
Saina Nehwal, who won the title in 2008, is the only children’s world champion from India. Lakshya Sen won bronze in the 2018 edition.
Unlike other Indian medalists, Sankar is not the product of any top badminton academy. On Friday, the 18-year-old recovered from losing the second game to dominate the Chinese in the third. Despite losing the second game by a large margin, Sankar returned spirited and dominated in Zhen’s decisive game.
In the semi-finals, Sankar will face Thailand’s Panitchapon Teeraratsakul, who defeated Pan Yin Long of China.
