Ram will use next week’s 2023 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas to introduces its 1500 Revolution BEVa concept truck previews a potential design for an electric 1500 that will debut in 2024.
Ram calls 1500 electric 1500 BEV, but the company has recently made moves to protect the 1500 REV name.
As first noted by car buzzRam on December 23 filed for trademark protection for 1500 REV with the US Patent and Trademark Office, in the section for road vehicles, specifically passenger trucks.
The filing of a trademark application should not be taken as an indication that the trademarked term will actually be used. Automakers will often trademark a term to protect intellectual property, whether or not they plan to use it.
However, it is likely that REV will be Ram’s term for extended-range electric vehicles, with BEV remaining for battery-powered vehicles. Ram CEO Mike Koval, Jr. told Motor Authority at the New York auto show in April 2022 that a Ram truck range expansion is planned. He says it will arrive with the electric 1500, though he did not say whether it will be part of the 1500 family or another line of Ram trucks.
However, he did say that the range-extending Ram will “have everything the BEV does but more”, in regards to capability and, more importantly, range. Maybe Ram will end up marketing the electric 1500 to lifestyle buyers, and the truck expands the range for buyers looking to tow or haul heavy loads — situations that could exhaust serious battery of EV.
