The judge’s daughter in custody in the Sippy Sidhu murder case: Here’s how the CBI caught her
On Wednesday, The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested Kalyani Singhdaughter of Judge Sabina Singh, a Himachal Pradesh High Court judge, in connection with the murder of Sukhmanpreet Singh Sidhu.
WHO IS SIPPY SIDHU?
Sukhmanpreet Singh Sidhu alias Sippy Sidhu is a national level shooter and corporate lawyer. He is also the grandson of Justice SS Sidhu, a former judge of the High Court of Punjab and Haryana.
He was shot dead by unidentified individuals in a park in Sector 29, Chandigarh on September 20, 2015.
Following his murder came nationwide outrage and outcry.
CBI INSPECTION
Chandigarh police registered the murder of 35-year-old Sidhu at Sector 26 police station in 2015.
In January 2016, the case was turned over to the CBI, after which the investigation was initiated by registering a murder case in April of that year.
The alleged role of Himachal Pradesh High Court judge’s daughter Kalyani in the murder has come to light during the CBI investigation.
To gather more clues, in September 2016, CBI announced a reward of Rs 50,000 to anyone who provided information in this case and also made an advertisement in a newspaper.
HOW DOES THE STATE ADVERTISEMENT?
The ad said that during the murder, a woman was present with Sippy’s killer. The ad adds that the woman can come and contact them by saying she is innocent. It also says that she is being given one last chance. “Otherwise, people would assume she was also involved in the crime,” the ad reads.
When nothing was found, in December 2021 CBI doubled the bonus amount to Rs 10 lakh. This ad claims that if anyone in the general community has any credible information regarding the murder or any related events, they should move on.
But even then, to no avail.
In 2020, the CBI also filed an “untraceable report” with the court, asking that the investigation be allowed to continue because it had suspicions about a woman’s role in the removal of Sippy Sidhu.
As the investigation gradually progressed, clues began to emerge including a connection to Kalyani.
Further investigation is ongoing.
