The community that helped Topeka’s family raise more than $70,000 for the baby’s surgery
TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -We have an update for Aspen Campbell, who needs craniocerebral surgery, and with the help of the community, funds for the surgery have been raised.
Aspen’s mother Chelsea Fisher had a tight deadline to raise funds for Aspen’s surgery.
In late 2021, Aspen was diagnosed with Craniosynostosis, a rare birth defect where the bones in a baby’s skull form too quickly.
Doctors said she needed surgery within a few months, and it would be very expensive. The family needed to raise about $60,000 to put their name on the surgery.
Aspen’s parents ran a series of 13 NEWS fundraising including bread sales, garage sales, poker games and more to raise thousands of dollars to be able to have this surgery done.
Currently, with support from the community, the family has raised about $70,000. Paid for the procedure that happened a few weeks ago and was successful.
“So Aspen remodeled the cranial vault so they remodeled the front part of her skull so her skull could expand as her brain grew, we went to Dallas to did that and everything was perfect, she was completely healed. They told her she was ready to skydive if she wanted to.
Aspen’s parents would like to thank the community for the endless support they have given Aspen.
