Some details have been released as investigators delve into how the Uvalde rifle shooting took place. The Texas Department of Public Safety is now correcting a comment previously made about a teacher leaving the door open, allowing the gunman to enter the school.
Based on ABC NewsEricka Miller, press secretary for the Texas Department of Public Safety, confirmed that investigators have now determined that the teacher closed the door, but the door did not lock when closed. Law enforcement is currently looking into why the door won’t lock.
As previously reported, last week, days after the shooting, a detailed timeline of how the mass shooting took place was released and Steven McCraw, director of the Department of Public Safety, was released. community of Texas, said, “The teacher ran to room, 132, to get a phone, and the same teacher went back to the exit door and the door was still open.”
The San Antonio Express News reported that the teacher’s attorney detailed what happened from her account and said she “saw the wreckage of the plane,” referring to the gunman who crashed his car near the school.
The lawyer went on to say that she, “ran inside to get a phone to report the accident. She turned while on the phone to 911. The men at the funeral home shouted, ‘He has a gun!’ She saw him jump the fence, and he had a gun, so she ran back inside.”
“She kicked the rock away when she came back,” the lawyer added. “She remembers pulling the door shut while telling 911 he was shooting. She thinks the door will lock because that door is always supposed to be locked.”
Like before reported, last Friday, the Texas Department of Public Safety released a detailed timeline of the evolution of the school shooting and initially stated that video evidence shows the door through which the shooter used to get inside was opened by a teacher around 11:27 am. As the timeline continues to detail the incident, it shows it all ended around 12:51pm, totaling an estimated 84 minutes for the whole thing to happen.
