Southwest Community College has a three-year nursing program, and they also hope to help with recruitment. They are starting a new partnership with the University of Iowa so graduates of their program can take classes online for another year and earn a full bachelor’s degree. The advantage is that nurses can work full-time in the community while working with a higher degree. Weaver is hopeful about this program because currently, 90% of their school’s nursing graduates end up working in regional facilities. “Nursing schools are having a hard time finding nursing instructors,” Weaver said. “They’re getting sign-up bonuses.
