Schneider Power System helps manage electric vehicle charging, solar energy, etc.
One of the more unfortunate consequences of our energy companies not investing in smarter and greener technology when given the opportunity, is that we must now do it all yourself. And it’s certainly not the most exciting thing in the world to try to link a network inside your own home with so many competing companies in the space. Schneider Electric is committed to providing a one company fix all solution with its Home Energy Management System, announced at CES.
Schneider systems are more or less all the components needed to manage your home’s energy needs. Including house the batterysolar inverter, power panel, connected power outlet, smart switch and its own electric car charger. The idea is that you can buy all the bits at once and then manage all of your home’s energy needs from a single app. That will help reduce the cost, complexity and space requirements of purchasing these parts separately, the company says.
If such a system has any benefit, it’s Schneider hardware that coordinates the energy sources in your home to match your needs. That’s especially important during power outages, as you can set the system to power only those devices that are needed to save energy. So you can set it to run your fridge, freezer, water heater, and HVAC, but nothing else when things get tough. You will also be able to set it to calculate when energy costs are at their lowest, such as to charge EVs from the mains.
There’s no word on pricing yet, but we can expect the components to make their own throughout the year.
