We’re just weeks away from the 2022 Grammys and Saweetie, who has earned two Grammy nominations, recently opened up about the obstacles she faces on her journey to becoming a recognized artist for my job.
While she’s grateful for the recognition, Saweetie revealed she was shocked to learn she won Best New Artist and Best Rap Song for her collaboration with Doja Cat.
“When you work really hard, it’s great to be recognized,” Saweetie said on PEOPLE’s Every Day podcast. She added that she was “shocked” when the nominations were rolled out and her name was on the list! She also recalled the moment in the interview with Elle magazine.
“I am actually sleeping. I didn’t know they were going to be out the next morning, so I woke up with lots of missed calls and congratulatory texts. So I think it’s an inside moment and I’m grateful to be recognized,” she said.
Saweetie also shared how difficult it is for an artist to make a successful career, despite how “glamorous” the cast looks.
“I just feel like an artist, you know, we have a hard time,” she told PEOPLE. “I feel like we’re getting people’s attention and people think it’s sexy when, in fact, there’s a lot of hard work going on behind the scenes.”
She went on to say, “Hopefully you have a great team. Hopefully the ads you’re working with don’t overwhelm you. It’s like all the people around, you have to pay for this. You have to pay for that.”
It’s been a good year for Saweetie so far, as she just received Billboard’s 2022 game-changing award for her contributions to music! As we reported earlier, Saweetie accepted the award with her beautiful mother by her side and thanked her fans for their continued support.
