Russian minister shows interest in collaboration with India on telecom, 5G


As India prepares to have 5G services this October, Russia’s Deputy Minister of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Communication Bella Cherkesova has expressed interest in strengthening cooperation with the country in telecommunications technology, security and development of 5G use cases, according to an official statement from the telecoms ministry.

According to PTI reports, the Russian minister met with his counterpart Devusin Chauhan on the sidelines of a conference of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) of the United Nations agency in Romania starting on September 24.

During their discussions, Chauhan commended the Russian minister for India’s success in spreading digital infrastructure across the country, especially in rural and remote areas. .

“Chauhan mentioned that the whole country will be covered with 5G services in a few years. He also said that India has developed native 4G services and is on the way to develop 5G,” the statement was quoted as saying. PTI quoted.

He also emphasized that India has taken a number of initiatives for autonomy in advanced telecommunications technology, including the development of chipsets.

“The Indian government has established a Technology Innovation Group to design and develop 6G technology by 2030,” Chauhan said while interacting with his Russian counterpart.

The Russian deputy minister also praised the development of India’s telecommunications sector, saying that the country’s success story is a great case study for the whole world.

“She also expressed a keen interest in strengthening cooperation with India in the areas of advanced telecommunications technology, security and development of 5G use cases,” the statement added.

Chauhan, during the ministerial roundtable at the 2022 Extraordinary Plenipotentiary Conference, shared that the government has planned to expand mobile service to all 6.4 lakh villages of the country by 2023. and fiber optic connection by 2025.

PM Modi launches 5G service on October 1

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will debut 5G Service in India at Mobile India Congress on October 1, the National Broadband Mission said in an earlier Twitter post.

India’s largest carrier Reliance Jio plans to roll out 5G Jio this Diwali 2022 in many key cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai.

Gopal Vittal, chief executive officer of the second largest telecom operator, said earlier this month that Bharti Airtel Ltd is ready to roll out its 5G services and will cover Indian municipalities by the end of the year. 2023.

Last month, Vittal also told analysts that Airtel will roll out 5G services in 5000 towns and cities by March 2024.
