Ron Meyer’s Family Building Dynasty of Lifestyle Brands – The Hollywood Reporter


The close family of former NBCUniversal vice president Ron Meyer is filled with lifestyle riches, with four women in the family leading consumer product companies. “The idea is not to start a company without a quote,” says his eldest daughter, Jennifer Meyer, a famous jewelry designer who became his children’s first entrepreneur. “I thought, ‘Let me see if I can do something that I love.’ “

The family patriarch, who resigned from NBCUniversal in 2020, is now an advisor to the Doha Film Institute and co-CEO of Wild Bunch, a European production and distribution company. His son, Eli and first wife, Ellen, also have more traditional entertainment jobs – Eli works in Netflix’s original movies division, and Ellen runs the talent agency Ellen Meyer Management (client). including Naveen Andrews and Rosanna Arquette). Jennifer, who opened a boutique in Palisades Village in 2018, recently launched eau de parfum ($130) with top notes of cranberry, strawberry and coconut water combined with accents of water lily and floral white. “I wanted to design something beautiful and delicious. I grew up on the beach and I love that feeling afterwards – when you feel tanned, relaxed, happy and you smell fresh.”

Caviar

After working as a development executive and film producer (Orphan, Unknown), second oldest daughter Sarah, 42, left the industry to launch Roe Caviar in 2015. The line of caviar is sustainably raised by aquaculture in California. Sarah says: “It’s not always meant for luxurious occasions, but it’s the best, easy to buy, delicious and beautifully packaged.

Caviar, which fans include Martha Stewart and Rachel Zoe, is available at Neiman Marcus, food52.comand roecaviar.com. Items range from a 30g tin for $120 to a 500g option for $1,620. Sarah talks about the second person. “It was a top pick. Expensive but a lot of fun.” The corporate style gift set includes a custom wooden box and a spoonful of pearl caviar.

Her idea for the line came naturally. “I went to buy someone a present,” she explained. “I decided to buy caviar and went to a great place, but the list [of options] too long. I was embarrassed to ask the question.” As she became a more savvy caviar consumer, she decided to make a product more accessible. “We wanted to clear that up,” she said, explaining that it was a gift “you would be happy to give and receive.”

Roe recently expanded into Scottish smoked salmon ($84 for a pack of two) and partnered with Apeel on a limited-edition “make your own caviar toast” gift set. Meanwhile, Roe enthusiasts look forward to the company’s annual curated holiday gift set. “We put our favorites in the box,” she said, sharing that last year’s set included Heather Taylor Home napkins, Floral Society candles and Valerie Confection chocolate truffles. “It’s everything you need to create a beautiful setting and a beautiful meal.”

C & the Moon Skin Care

The youngest daughter Carson, who started her clean skincare line in 2018, is also a birth doula who has helped deliver over 100 babies and has consulted twice as many parents including Mandy Moore and Gigi Hadid.

While Carson, 28, has also started acting, she discovered her passion for childbirth soon after watching the 2008 Ricki Lake-produced documentary. Business was born. According to her, society has “turned childbirth into a medical event”. In her work as a doula, she says, “I’m passionate about reconnecting with one of our bodies’ greatest powers.”

She credits her mother, Kelly Meyer Chapman (Ron’s second wife), for helping to inspire her skincare line. “My mother is an environmentalist, so I grew up knowing about clean skin care and the importance of being mindful of what you are consuming through your skin,” she says. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen myself as a business owner. I identify more as a birth doula. That feels more in line with my spirit, but I love running a business and I feel lucky to do so.”

C & the Moon’s signature product is a Malibu-made body scrub ($64 for 12 ounces, candthemoon.com) with brown sugar and organic coconut, sweet almonds and jojoba seed oils. The company, whose fans include Kim Kardashian and January Jones, also offers glow oil ($93) and candles ($56-$70). “All of my products are safe for pregnancy,” says Carson. “I like that the products are nourishing. Mothers who don’t have time to go to the spa or get a massage can use them as a small gift.” C & The Moon is also available through Poosh, The Detox Market, and Violet Gray.

Next up: develop a belly butter. “Now that I’m pregnant myself, it’s fun to test the products [that are already] on the market on my own belly. “

OneSun Farms Granola

Launched in 2020, OneSun Farms is an extension of Kelly’s work as an environmentalist. Kelly, 61, says: “For many years in philanthropy, I thought, ‘I need to have a for-profit business that represents what I believe in,’ because that’s one of the best ways to do this. making a difference. What I’m doing here is not making granola; I am expanding the market that I want to expand. I want to build a bridge to better, healthier food. It’s about food equity. “Environmental advocate has long been affiliated with the environmental nonprofit Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC). She also created the American Heart Association’s Teaching Garden program in 2010.” I talk to people about the environment through food,” she explains. “I did that for years in schools around the country.”

Granola is made on a farm overlooking the Pacific Ocean in Malibu. “When I had the opportunity in life to reinvent myself, I bought this property four years ago. I had a vision of wanting to develop my own food,” says Kelly (who split from Ron). “I’m self-funding and I don’t spend more than I earn, so I kept [the business] a certain scale,” she continued, explaining that she offsets costs by opening her ranch for intimate events. So far, OneSun Farm has organized subscription meetups for mom/baby Little Honey Money, shopping website Mytheresa and The Wall Street Journal.

“Ultimately, my goal is to have a place where people can go to learn about biofoods and learn about soil restoration,” she said. “I’m doing what I love – talking about food, soil health, regenerative agriculture, connecting with nature – but then it helps me sell products.”

OneSun Farms also sells a Nature Bar that includes raw cashews, almonds, pumpkin seeds and black fair trade chocolate for $10 as well as the Rainbow bundle – with all six different granola products – for 82 dollars.

Kelly credits her daughter Carson and stepdaughters Jennifer and Sarah as inspiration. “It’s great to have young mentors,” she said. “The businesses they’ve created, I’ve watched them build, build, build in the most organic, loving, authentic, and kindest way.”
