Rohit Sharma outlines plans for Dinesh Karthik ahead of South Africa matches

As India take on South Africa in a three-match T20I series, which starts this Wednesday, captain Rohit Sharma wants to give table tennis player Dinesh Karthik more time in between ahead of next month’s T20 World Cup. In the last few matches, India has alternated between Karthik and Rishabh Pant in their lineup.

“I want both of these guys to have some underdog games before the World Cup. When we go to the Asian Cup, both of these players are ready to play all the games,” Rohit said in his post-match press conference after India overcame a series of three games against Australia on Sunday.

“But I just feel that Dinesh needs a little more game time. He barely had to hit the ball (this series). There can only be three balls. So that’s not enough time,” added Rohit.

While Rishabh Pant was given a nod by the Asia Cup veteran, Karthik was selected for all three matches against Australia. But Karthik faced a total of seven balls in the match against Australia, while Pant played only one game where he didn’t get a chance to hit the ball.

On Sunday, Suryakumar Yadav and Virat Kohli scored in half a century as India beat Australia by six goals in their third and final Twenty20 International match in Hyderabad on Sunday to win the series. 2-1.

“Obviously Pant also needs game time. But considering how important this series is to me, it’s important for me to stick with that consistent batting formation. “

However, Rohit said Karthik and Pant being included in the typical lineup will depend on the situation.

“I don’t know what we’re going to do against South Africa. We just have to come and see their bowling, what kind of bowling team they will play, and who is the best fit for us who can handle that bowling team. It all depends on that.

“We wanted to be flexible in how we hit the ball. So if the situation or the situation requires that we need a left-hander, we will bring in a left-hander. If we need a right-hander, we will continue to do it.

“But we will try to manage those guys quite carefully. I understand they need game time before the World Cup but there are only 11 players that you can play, unfortunately. ”

After their win in Australia on Sunday, Team India overtook arch-rivals Pakistan to become the team with the most T20I wins in a calendar year. The previous record was held by Pakistan, who won 20 T20I matches in 2021.

The ICC T20 World Cup will take place in Australia from October 16 to November 13 this year.
