New Delhi: Union Minister of Youth and Sports Anurag Thakur and LG of Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinha on Saturday launched the Indian Khelo Winter Olympics mascot, theme song and jersey third time.
Khelo India Winter Games is part of Khelo India Abhiyan, an idea of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to encourage youth towards games and make India an emerging soft sports power on the global stage, Ministry of Chief Thakur said during the launch event.
Thakur said that more than 1500 players from 29 states and union territories will participate in the Khelo India Winter Olympics. This event will not only encourage J&K youth towards games but also promote tourism in the union territory.
LG Sinha said that according to PMDP, the sports infrastructure has been perfected in every corner of J&K, which is encouraging young people to move towards games.
The Winter Olympics will be held from January 10-14 in Gulmarg, Jammu and Kashmir.
The Indian Khelo Winter Olympics are supported by the Ministry of Youth and Sports and organized by the J&K Sports Council as well as the Winter Olympics Association, J&K.
The first Indian Khelo Winter Olympics take place in 2020, and Jammu and Kashmir have come out on top in both versions of the game so far.
