Rajasthan: Clashes Break Out In Jodhpur On Eid; Internet Services Suspended
In the Rajasthan city of Jodhpur, clashes broke out on Monday night between the two communities after some villains replaced the religious flag of a community at Balmukand Bissa at the Jalori Gate intersection circle with flags of other communities. People from other communities protested the move, which led to stoning and scuffles. The crowd also pulled out loudspeakers installed in the area for Eid prayers. After the stoning, the police arrived and intervened to disperse the gathering.
“Four policemen were injured in the stoning incident. A heavy police force has been deployed in the area to control the situation,” according to news agencies.
Jodhpur district government has temporarily suspended internet services in the district from 1am on Tuesday.
As a result, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot called the clashes between the two groups “regrettable” and instructed the district government to maintain law and order at all costs.
“It is an unfortunate incident that an atmosphere of tension has prevailed due to the clash between the two groups at the Jalori gate in Jodhpur. The authorities have been instructed to maintain peace and order at all costs.” CM Gehlot wrote on Twitter.
Gehlot added, “While respecting the traditions of love and brotherhood of Jodhpur, Marwar, I make a touching appeal to all parties to maintain peace and cooperate in restoring law and order. “.
