Rafael Nadal has withdrawn from the upcoming hard-court tournament in Montreal with an abdominal injury that forced him to withdraw from Wimbledon ahead of the semi-final.

The Spaniard once led 19-0 in Grand Slam matches this year when he decided the injury was too bad at Wimbledon. He won the Australian Open and French Open to bring his main points total to a men’s record 22 – one more than Novak Djokovic and two more than Roger Federer.

Nadal is a five-time champion in Montreal.

“I’ve been practicing for a while without serving and started serving four days ago. Everything is going well. However, yesterday, after normal training, I felt a bit angry. belly and it’s still there today,” Nadal said in a statement.
