Prime Minister to unveil 28 feet statue of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose today

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate on Thursday a large statue of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose near the Gateway of India in New Delhi. The announcement ceremony will be part of the inauguration ceremony of the Central Vista Boulevard project refurbished by the Prime Minister. He will also inaugurate the ‘Kartavaya Road’ (formerly Rajpath)’, which is the passage from Rashtrapati Bhawan to the Gateway of India.

The jet-black granite statue stands 28 feet tall and will be placed under Canopy near the Gateway of India. The statue will be installed and placed in the same place where the holographic statue of Netaji was unveiled earlier this year on Parakram Diwas. Netaji’s 125th birthday is celebrated on January 23.

The monolithic granite block was chiseled to create the 65-ton statue, built after 26,000 hours of painstaking artistic labor. The sculpting team led by Arun Yogiraj has completely sculpted the statue by hand using traditional techniques and modern tools. The statue is carved from a monolithic granite block weighing 280 tons.

“Netaji’s 28-foot tall statue is one of the tallest, most realistic, monolithic, most beautiful handcrafted sculptures in India. On January 21, 2022, the Prime Minister assured that a statue A large statue of Netaji made of granite will be installed at the Gateway of India as a symbol of the nation’s indebtedness to him,” an official statement said.

The monolithic granite statue traveled 1,665 kilometers from Khammam in Telangana to New Delhi in a 100-foot truck with 140 wheels specially designed for the statue.

“To embody the spirit of Ek Bharat – Shrestha Bharat and Unity in Diversity, a cultural festival of 500 dancers from all over the country, will be introduced on the Kartvya Road. A similar view will be displayed. Show for Prime Minster on Amphitheatre Steps near India Gate with around 30 artists will perform tribal folk art forms such as Sambalpuri, Panthi, Kalbelia, Kargam and effigy horse with live music by Nashik Dhol Pathik Tasha and Drums. Mangalgaan written by Padma Bhushan Pt. Shrikrishna Ratanjankarji on India’s First Independence Day Celebration 1947 is being performed by Pt. SuhasVashi along with a group of singers and songwriters Ashish Keskar will be music director for the show,” it said.

The statement also announced that the launch ceremony will be accompanied by the tune of ‘Kadam Kadam Badhaye Jaa’, the traditional INA song. The arrival of the Prime Minister at the canopy will be heralded by traditional Kerala Manipuri Shankh Vadayam and Panch Vadayam and Chanda traditions.

Four-day festival at ‘Kartavya road‘will begin at 8:45pm on the Thursday following the inauguration and will continue on 9th, 10th and 11th September.

During the festival period, a 10-minute Drone Show about Netaji’s life will also be screened at India Gate at 8pm on September 9, 10 and 11. The cultural festival lasts for 4 days. and the drone show will be open to the public. with free admission.
