Politico on Heightened Alert After Publishing Leaked SCOTUS Draft
Politico on high alert after publication bombshell leaked Supreme Court draft comments overturned Roe v Wade.
In a memo emailed to all employees on Tuesday, the influential DC news outlet outlined the additional security precautions that have now been put in place as a result of the story, based on one unprecedented leak from the supreme court and proposed a conservative majority plan to attack The landmark 1973 decision established the legal right to abortion.
“With increasing visibility for POLITICO following our report at the Supreme Court last night, we wanted to make sure you were aware of some of the additional safety measures we are proactive about. apply,” Politico Chief Talent Officer Traci Schweikert wrote on top of a memo obtained and reviewed by The Daily Beast.
In addition to outlining stringent new safety precautions, the memo reiterates existing measures and assures all employees: “Your safety and health is of paramount importance.”
The memo also calls on employees to be aware of ways they can protect themselves from physical or digital threats. “First, be aware of who accesses our elevator with you and the possibility of ‘adjusting’ to your floor,” the email continued, then encouraged staff to take aggressive measures. to secure social media accounts and remove personal information from their profiles.
One Politico The spokesman declined to comment. A source familiar with the matter stressed to The Daily Beast that the enhanced security measures are proactive in nature and are not meant to deal with any particular threat.
Leakage of a draft SCOTUS opinion word within the confines of the court lead to condemnation on Tuesday from Chief Justice John Roberts, who wrote in a statement: “To the extent that betrayal of the Court’s confessions is intended to undermine the integrity of our operations, it will not success. The work of the Court will not be affected in any way”. Roberts also wrote that he directed the court’s governor to track down the leaker, calling it a “strange and grave breach.”
