Humberside Police said a man was shot dead by police after two officers were seriously injured in Scunthorpe.
The force confirmed a man who was shot by police was called to an incident on Theodore Street on Wednesday night and is in stable condition.
They did not say how the officers were injured but said they were “taken to hospital for treatment for serious injuries” after hunting down an armed suspect.
Deputy Chief of Police Paul Anderson said: “There is currently a crime scene being made on Theodore Street, Scunthorpe, following a police incident last night.
“We received a call shortly before 6:30pm from a member of the public reporting a safety concern regarding a man believed to be carrying a weapon inside an address.
“Officers were quickly deployed and a sling was put in place to ensure the safety of those nearby.
“During the incident, the man was shot by the police. He was taken to the hospital, he is currently in a stable condition.
“Two police officers were also injured while responding to the incident. Both were taken to hospital for treatment for their serious injuries.”
Mr Anderson added: “Those officers are being supported by their line managers, the Police Federation and our broader welfare group – as well as all of their colleagues who attended. case.”
He said a mandatory referral was made to the Independent Police Conduct Office.
