Bayonetta 3 is Game informant next cover, and in interviews with Platinum Games, we asked if it’s been months-long rumors that Bayonetta’s English voice actor in the first two games, Hellena Taylor, is leaving her role in the entry. upcoming or not. Taylor confusing hint told fans last September that she probably won’t be returning for Bayonetta 3, saying she wasn’t “free” to elaborate further when fans highlighted the matter. Platinum has confirmed to us that Taylor is not reprising the role. Instead, Umbra Witch was performed by veteran artist Jennifer Hale.
Game director Yusuke Miyata said: “Many overlapping episodes make it difficult for Hellena Taylor to portray her role. “We held auditions to choose the new voice of Bayonetta and offered the role to Jennifer Hale, who we felt was a great fit for the character. I understand some fans’ concerns about the voice change at this point in the series, but Jennifer’s performance was beyond what we could have imagined. I’m confident that her role as Bayonetta will exceed fans’ expectations. “
Hale is an excellent voice actress with a lot of video game credits. She is perhaps best known for voicing Commander Shepard in Mass Effect, but her roles include Samus Aran in the Metroid Prime series, Naomi Hunter in the Metal Gear Solid series, Ashe in Overwatch and Rivet in Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart.
Despite this change, Platinum also confirmed that Bayonetta’s Japanese VO remains unchanged. She is still voiced by Atsuko Tanaka.
Having heard the performance during gameplay for our cover story myself, I found Hale’s portrayal to be very distinctive and at times indistinguishable from Taylor’s excellent work. Listening carefully makes a noticeable difference, but it’s not jarring. Fans will be able to judge for themselves when Bayonetta 3 arrives on Switch on October 28.
