PD Ames is looking for the suspect who assaulted the Iowa nurse
A man walked into Ames’ emergency room and attacked a nurse on Monday night. The incident happened around 9:45 p.m. at Mary Greeley Medical Center. Hospital officials said one person had just entered and started swinging his arm at a nurse. Surveillance video shows this person making his way to the emergency room. Once they got in, they started attacking the staff. The nurse immediately ran towards a locked room. But just before she did, her outstretched hand turned the emergency switch. The switch activates those flashing blue lights. Hospital officials told KCCI that attacks on medical professionals have increased nationally but are rare in Mary Greeley. They added that their staff did exactly what they were trained to do in a dangerous situation. “There’s a panic button, there’s a lock button, but they also enter the locked area themselves and stay away from this person,” said Steve Sullivan, director of marketing and public relations. The employee was not seriously injured in the attack, but is experiencing chest pain. Police are still looking for the suspect. A jacket worn by the suspect in the video was found in an alley. If you have any information regarding the attack, you are asked to contact the Ames Police Department at 515-239-5133.
