Opel revives GSe badge for electrified performance range

Opel’s future is electric, but that’s by no means boring. In fact, the German division of Stellantis has planned a range of electric models, both hybrid and electric, with a focus on performance.

They will wear the GSe badge, which stands for “Grand Sport Electric”. It was an evolution of Opel’s original GSE badge featured on the performance-oriented versions of Commodore and Monza in the 70s and 80s. Back then the E meant “einsosystemzung”, the German word for is “injection”.

Opel says modern GSe cars will feature sporty styling treatments and performance tuning to the chassis setup. It is likely that the cars will also offer the most power in their respective model lines, based on comments by Opel CEO Florian Huettl.

“I am delighted to announce the return of GSe as our flagship sports sub-brand,” he said in a statement.

Opel has not said which model will be the first to receive the GSe treatment, but rumors indicate that Latest Astra. The compact hatch and wagon now make 221 horsepower, generated by a plug-in hybrid powertrain.

Opel is also known as develop a modern Manta as an electrically efficient crossover, although the time of release is uncertain.
