NTPC to host G20 international seminar on CCUS

NEW DELHI: In view of India’s ambitious climate goals, NTPC will host an international workshop on Carbon Capture, Use and Storage (CCUS) on 5 February 2023 in Bengaluru.

A statement from the Ministry of Electricity said the workshop will likely involve industry, policymakers, scientists and academics from different countries.

India took over the G20 presidency from 1 December 2022 for a period of one year. During his presidency, the first meeting of the Energy Transition Working Group (ETWG) is scheduled to be held from February 5 to February 7, 2023.

The workshop will focus on highlighting the importance of CCUS to achieve a clean energy transition and then move towards net zero.

The government is mainly focused on CCUS as it aims to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2070 and energy PSUs including NTPC and ONGC are looking at tapping into the potential for this sector in India.

Carbon capture, use and storage (CCUS) is a technology that can effectively capture and utilize high concentrations of carbon dioxide emitted by industrial activities.
