Nike spokeswoman Sandra Carreon-John said the sports brand made the move because it was “deeply concerned” about the ongoing reports about Canadian Hockey.
She said Nike believes “significant and substantial” action is needed to support athletes and transform hockey for future generations.
The company will continue to monitor the situation and said it is awaiting more information on what Hockey Canada will do to assist with investigations into sexual assault cases.

Nike joins a growing list of top sponsors including Telus Corp., Scotiabank, Tim Hortons and Canadian Tire Corp. has backed hockey’s national governing body in recent days.
The Canadian Hockey website lists Nike as one of its top four marketing partners and says it has held that role since 1999.
