Nick Jonas and John Varvatos reveal their holiday party planning checklist

Interesting things happen when you’re a celebrity attending a fancy dinner party. Take an example in New York City in 2017, in which singer/actor Nick Jonas met famous designer John Varvatos. Jonas recalls: “We really got along and ended up chatting about fashion and music almost all night. “We realized we shared a lot of common interests and goals and started figuring out how to work together.” Instant friends soon collaborated on a menswear campaign and fragrance line.

They usually end a long day with a glass of tequila. So it was perhaps inevitable that in 2019, they decided to toast a whole new business venture.

With Villa One tequila, the two created a blend of agave plants from both the prominent and lowlands of Jalisco, Mexico. “We wanted something that was the best in its class but not too expensive,” explains Varvatos, adding that the two spent months developing the flavor with distiller Arturo Fuentes to give it a unique taste. “distinct and well-rounded profile”. Jonas added, “We are both very brand conscious and pay attention to detail with top quality.”

They add that their drinks prove especially handy during the holiday season. “I love how entertaining the holidays brings people together,” says Jonas. “This is a special time where people can cut back on their busy schedules and spend quality time. Being able to welcome people into our homes with delicious food and drinks just gets me in the holiday spirit.

This year, he and his wife, actress Priyanka Chopra, are planning a light holiday “to spend time with family and loved ones”. (No, Jonas doesn’t mention whether that combination includes a few of his famous brothers.) Meanwhile, Varvatos praises that his family’s lake house “is well-made.” designed for fun, amplified during the holidays.” That means a hearty meal as well as a well-stocked bar at the ready. He said: “My wife, Joyce, has always felt part of the party because of our open kitchen. He also plans to take his friends to Empire Farm in Copake, New York, because “It’s a perfect postcard and a real winter wonderland.”

Even though they’ll be apart for the season, they’re still teaming up on the must-have holiday organizer list for CNN Underscored.

Jonas will drink on ice with some soda water and a slice of orange, thank you. “This is great for serving guests as an after-dinner pajamas,” he says. “It was aged in American oak for six months, so it has a taste that is both sweet and smoky.” Varvatos likes to serve margarine by mixing Reposado with fresh lemon, jalapeno peppers, and a dash of orange juice. His mocktail choice? Ginger beer with a hint of bitterness and a bit of OJ.

“I love mid-century vintage cutlery, plates and glasses,” says Varvatos. “Having everything with a similar vibe makes for an eclectic dinner table.” Many used vintage cutlery items are now available on eBay and Etsy; This classic Italian made flat bra from Pottery Barn is crafted from stainless steel.

No big deal, but Jonas started playing this UK chess game while he was on holiday with his wife and Mick Jagger. The setup is simple: Each player chooses a card with multiple seemingly random words and has to figure out how they all connect to each other. The first person or team to spell the word “Linkee” with all the correct cards wins. “It can get pretty competitive, and everyone I recommend it to loves it,” he said. In fact, Jonas just launched his own curated version of the game.

The stylish fashion designer doesn’t have a wardrobe when he’s in show mode. But still. “You can’t go wrong with a great sweater,” he says. He especially loves this luxurious cashmere wool blend from his new brand, OTD. But Varvatos advises hosts and guests to follow a specific style rule: “Dress a little more politely during the holidays and save your elegant black for New Year’s Eve!”

One core truth: Jonas always keeps this savory snack by his side. “It is full of flavor and has really become a staple for me,” he said. On the sweet side, he and she have also started the tradition of decorating holiday cookies for his guests. At the Varvatos party, guests enjoy chips and dips. After all, he said, “How can you go wrong with it?”

For party music, both Varvatos and Jonas use classical sounds from Detroit. “I love listening to almost any Motown artist!” says Varvatos, who dug deep into his vinyl collection to shoot his favorite records on vintage turntables. (He also loves Willie Nelson’s holiday music!) Jonas notes that he personally “loves some good Stevie Wonder classics” and dances the streets (yeah, living room) with Prince and Bee Gees.
