A new trailer for Final Fantasy XVI has been released in today’s PlayStation State of Play, and it reveals a lot of war, chaos, and primality.
It also gives us an expanded look at the gameplay and release window in the summer of 2023, which might come as a surprise as producer Naoki Yoshida said in April that FF XVI is nearing the end of development. The trailer dives into the story of FF XVI, focusing on the soon-to-be war between the warring kingdoms, with the Empire seemingly leading the way. At the heart of this fight are many of the key characters who seem to have the ability to transform into (or at least embody) primates, which are often summoned in Final Fantasy games.
Check them out for yourself in the trailer below:

Elsewhere in the trailer, we get new looks at the game’s combat, which looks to contain some unique boss battles that will feature health bars across the top of the screen. The combat throughout the game also looks pretty flashy, with plenty of spin, fire, and more attacks. At the bottom right is a weapon wheel that appears to be something the player can customize, complete with items, jumping actions, attack actions, and a variety of magical attacks to use. . Hopefully we’ll learn more about all of this soon!
