Neighbors blame animal rescue for recent skunk problem
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Members of the Saxet Heights neighborhood watchdog are increasingly concerned about the recently discovered skunk numbers. Some neighborhood skunks are aggressive and are causing problems for their way of life.
“He doesn’t understand why people who normally love him run away from him,” Robert McCardy said of his dog Wedo.
McCardy goes to his yard with his coffee every morning, which is where he and Wedo ran a skunk.
McCardy said: “Last Wednesday, when he went out with me, he was sprayed on him by skunks. “So I had to find a way to bathe him and get rid of that smell. Then again (Wednesday) he got sprayed (Wednesday).”
McCardy isn’t the only one handling skunk interactions as of the end of the year. Others said they had faced.
Estella Sanders said she saw many skunks from the window when they tried to get into her trash can.
“I don’t know what to do to protect him except to keep him in the house,” Sanders said. “Is that fair to me and is that fair to him?”
“There are neighbors who have never seen skunks in this neighborhood. 65 years without skunks,” said Scott Harris, another concerned neighbor.
These neighbors, thinking, they know what the problem is. There is a wildlife rescue in the neighborhood.
The owner of the rescue declined an interview, but she told KRIS 6 News that she’s interested in animals like skunks, squirrels, opossums and more. She’s been doing this in several places over the years.
“There’s really only one person who keeps skunks or keeps skunks and now they’re running all over the neighborhood and they’re affecting residents, they’re affecting other pets,” Harris said.
“There’s no way these skunks come from somewhere else,” said one concerned resident, who declined to use his real name. neighborhood.
But… the owner of this wildlife rescue said she has never released her animals back into the vicinity. She said they were taken to other animal facilities or far from the city.
The same people involved said they wanted help from this wildlife rescue to fix their problems.
“Help us get the skunks out of the vicinity and relocate them for us,” said the concerned resident, “We don’t know what to do. I tagged her. I tried to contact her through a post and I tagged her there.”
All the neighbors who spoke to KRIS 6 News said they had never seen the owner of the rescue with her animals in person. They only see her social media posts.
