GANDHINAGAR: Wrestler Divya Kakran won a gold medal at National Sports Festival in the women’s 76 kg freestyle on Friday. And, for the first time, she did not launch a criticism against Delhi chief Arvind Kejriwal over his government’s refusal to honor her with a cash reward. Reason: Birmingham CWG bronze medalist in

However, Kakran has repeatedly stated that she is practicing the sport wrestling for the past 22 years in the Gokulpuri area of ​​Delhi in the East district and has represented the state from 2011 to 2017.
This time, the two-time Asian Championship gold medalist will be delighted to receive a check for Rs 6 lakh from the UP government for the top spot on the podium at the Olympics. The UP government has a policy of rewarding gold, silver and bronze medal winners with cash rewards of Rs 6 lakh, Rs 4 lakh and Rs 2 lakh, respectively.

At the Sports Festival, on the opening day of the wrestling competitions here, Divya happily talked about her achievement and how the change in her weight class from the original 68kg to the new 76kg was applied. In the final, she defeated Rani of Himachal Pradesh ‘by-fall’.
“This is my first time competing in the 76kg weight class and soon, I will participate in this weight class. After the Birmingham CWG, I gained some extra weight, and it was very difficult to cut back. The training session was not good after the break. I think instead of losing weight, acclimating to 76kg would be ideal. So I will continue to compete in this weight class,” said Kakran, who won bronze at the 2015 Kerala National Games.
