Rian Johnson’s Mystery Series Is Ready Poker Face.
The highly anticipated Peacock show marked Pull out the knife and Star Wars: The Last Jedi directorial debut as television creator and stars Natasha Lyonne. So far, not much is known about what might happen other than Johnson teasing the movie as a controlled character, a mystery case of the week.
“There’s been a murder and I’m trying to figure out what happened,” Lyonne’s protagonist, creepy protagonist Charlie Cale, says in the teaser trailer (below). Billed as a weeknight mystery drama, the 10-episode, hour-long series premieres January 26 and airs weekly on Thursdays.
This first look at the detective series from Lyonne and Johnson’s mind includes three shots of Lyonne’s Charlie, along with an opening trailer in less than a minute. The clip introduces Charlie as she embarks on a cross-country road trip and encounters “a gallery of crooks’ characters” while beginning to avenge a new injustice in each episode. Charlie is described as having “an extraordinary ability to determine when someone is lying. She sets off with her Plymouth Barracuda and at each stop encounters a new cast of characters and strange crimes that she just can’t help but solve.
Among the large cast of guests appearing in the trailer are Adrien Brody, Chloë Sevigny, Dascha Polanco, Ron Pearlman, Lil Rel Howery, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Tim Meadows.
In a note from Johnson and Lyonne, who also executive produce her and Maya Rudolph’s Animal Image banner, the couple said: “Never underestimate the power of a fun dinner conversation between friends. What begins is a steak discussion about detective shows and what makes them a relatable pleasure – exploring small worlds in each new setting, guest stars play the part. killers and victims, and most importantly, a terrifying protagonist you’re always willing to go back to and watch triumph over – ultimately leading to the creation of Charlie, the driving force behind Poker face.
We invite you to follow Charlie on a cross-country trip as she encounters a gallery of rogue characters and heralds a new injustice each episode, armed with little more than a strange ability. her in detecting lies and sincere gratitude to her fellow human beings (and the occasional dog). Now, let’s leave it to Rian, who has masterfully created 10 self-contained puzzles for Charlie to solve. Just hop in the back of her ’69 Plymouth Barracuda and enjoy the ride. ”

The film stars Lyonne with a guest list that also includes Angel Desai, Audrey Corsa, Benjamin Bratt, Brandon Michael Hall, Charles Melton, Chelsea Frei, Cherry Jones, Clea DuVall, Colton Ryan, Danielle MacDonald, Ellen Barkin, Hong Chau, Jasmine Aiyana Garvin, Jameela Jamil, Judith Light, Leslie Silva, Luis Guzmán, Megan Suri, Niall Cunningham, Nicholas Cirillo, Nick Nolte, Reed Birney, Rhea Perlman, Rowan Blanchard, S. This was the first program that Johnson created. He has previously directed episodes of TV series, including some of the highlights of Break.
