TULSA, Okla. – After Covering a towel in memory of Ukrainian President Volodymyr ZelenskyyOne Tulsa mom promptly made another one for a grand occasion.
Devida Bushrod is of English descent but now calls Tulsa home. She’s been making quilts for years and even runs her own website, Pixel Quilts.
This time, she spent up to 110 hours creating a special Queen Elizabeth II quilt to celebrate her Platinum Year, marking 70 years of her reign in 2022. Over 2,700 pieces of fabric and 2,500 hand-embroidered beads are attached to the blanket.
Bushrod thought of marking the special occasion in a special way away from home and did what she does best.
Bushrod explains: “I wanted to do something different and since the comforter is my thing, I thought making a special Queen’s duvet would be a good idea.
She initially wanted to send the Queen quilt herself, but the Buckingham Palace website says she does not accept any unsolicited outside gifts.
“I started it in early April to make sure I had enough time to make it and send it, but despite trying different methods to get to the palace, I still couldn’t send it to you. there,” Bushrod said. “I have to admit, with Harry and Megan here, I thought about reaching out to them, but thought that would be too bold.”
As of June 1, the duvet is currently still in Tulsa, but Bushrod says she will continue to try to contact the palace to donate it.
Although not at home, Bushrod and her family are still planning to celebrate the occasion appropriately.
“We’ll be celebrating the Jubilee by removing all of our decorations and banners and inviting friends over to sample some British food! Obviously, this isn’t a holiday in America. , but I’ll be up early to watch the UK celebrate and Bushrod said.
