Monsoon update: UP govt shuts schools for class 1-12 in Noida, others on 10 Oct

With heavy rains hitting the northern parts of the country, the Uttar Pradesh government on October 9 announced the closure of schools for all children from class XII and below.

Following government orders, cities including Lucknow, Noida, Gaziabad, Kanpur and Agra will close schools for all children 12th grade and below due to heavy rainfall warnings issued by the weather department on the day October 10.

Earlier in the day, India’s Meteorological Department issued a warning that heavy rainfall is expected to continue over Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, West Madhya Pradesh and Eastern Rajasthan over the next two days.

In its forecast, the IMD said, “Breaking light/moderate/widespread/light rainfall with isolated/scattered heavy rainfall & thunderstorms/lightning very likely in Uttarakhand, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and West Madhya Pradesh on 9 & 10 and through Eastern Rajasthan on 9 October 2022.”

Additionally, the Indian Meteorological Department forecast on October 8 that northern and central India are more likely to see thunderstorms, with heavy downpours during October 8-10.
