Mikel Arteta updates Arsenal’s key pairing issues ahead of Chelsea clash
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has revealed that both Takehiro Tomiyasu and Alexandre Lacazette will be assessed on Tuesday ahead of Wednesday’s clash with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, as both could be set to appear.
Tomiyasu is expected to return to training following the loss to Southampton, after three months out with various thigh injuries, and the Gunners boss claims that the Japanese defender is “very close” to a return but the game against the Blues may come too soon.

Meanwhile, Alexandre Lacazette missed the defeat to Southampton after testing positive for COVID-19, for the second time this season, and like Tomiyasu is touching and preparing for a trip across the capital. His fitness will be assessed after Tuesday’s training session.
Arsenal in the territory must win?
Three defeats in a row against middle-tier teams forced Arsenal to put their best foot forward in the race to finish fourth in the Premier League and, as a result, qualify for next season’s Champions League.
A win over Chelsea and then a result against Manchester United at the Emirates on Saturday would go a long way to reversing some of the damage already done, especially since the clash with the Blues represents the game. Their game against north London rivals Tottenham, currently holds 4th place.
However, defeat in one or both games could leave the Gunners completely out of contention, especially if Tottenham can pull together in any form ahead of the rescheduled north London derby next week. the end of the season.
It is reaching the end of the season for all sides, and Mikel Arteta’s side are no exception.
