Michael Allio, Danielle Maltby discuss finale – The Hollywood Reporter

This seems like a particularly happy holiday to Bachelor in Heaven featured Michael Allio and Danielle Maltby.

The final episode of the ABC dating show, which aired on Tuesday, revealed the pair as one of the two main success stories of the eighth season, along with Brandon Jones and the newly engaged Serene Russell. After Allio’s initial attempt at a romance with Sierra Jackson failed at the start of the season, Maltby hit the beach in Mexico and had an immediate connection with the single father. In the finale, viewers learned that the pair were stronger than ever, as Maltby moved from Nashville to Allio’s hometown of Akron, Ohio, to be closer to him and his young son James.

The couple left Bachelor in Heaven before proposing, so instead of getting engaged, their most important moment in the finale was Allio, who was first introduced to viewers during Katie Thurston’s season Bachelor, which stunned Maltby when he first told her he loved her. But the couple explained to hollywood reporter that they simply hope to get things done at their own pace.

“We don’t necessarily feel pressured by the timing that the audience can impose or the show that has been set up,” says Allio. “100% of us will march to our own drums and I think that is the best fit for us. So those are all the little moments that we can now share together and start building memories as a couple, which I can’t wait to see.”

In the chat below, the pair discuss their vacation plans (Christmas tree shopping!), the debate over Maltby’s podcast chat from last week about Jackson, why Allio is reluctant to play. role of The Bachelor and their reaction to the controversial segment of the finale when Victoria Fuller announced that she had ended her engagement to Johnny DePhillipo and is now dating Allio’s co-star bachelor alum Greg Grippo.

Your time in the finale is definitely a highlight of the episode. How does it feel to have everything outdoors?

Danielle Maltby: It’s surreal. Our little bubble has now burst and we can finally share our joy with more people than just friends and family right away.

Michael Allio: My phone has been blowing up since last night. It’s great to look back, not just on the reunion but on our journey as well. We can see our walls broken. We are two people who are heavily guarded and have made a lot of progress, and for us, we were able to grow a lot after the show. Sometimes that’s when relationships are tested the most and they falter — that’s where our relationship really begins, without the camera.

What is most different about the real world?

Maltby: Well, James is in the real world. He’s not above heaven. (laugh.)

Allio: We really haven’t experienced much in real life since everything is a secret. We’ve been dating for almost six months now. We actually spent a lot of that time getting to know each other and dig deeper and not get distracted by the outside world. With the holidays approaching, it just feels like a really special time in our lives right now.

Maltby: It really is. I feel like every vacation will come, and I’ll think, “Will I have someone?”

Allio: You don’t have to worry about that anymore. (laugh.)

What does your vacation plan look like?

Allio: Danielle actually left Nashville at 3 a.m. and drove here. My sister has Thanksgiving tomorrow, so we’ll spend the afternoon cooking pumpkin pie and making food. And the day after Thanksgiving…

Maltby: Christmas tree shopping!

Allio: We will buy our Christmas tree; We will decorate it.

Maltby: I’m very happy!

The two of you left the beach before you proposed, but have you talked about those moments along the way?

Maltby: There were a few things that had to happen before I was moved up. I want to make sure I leave the office in the best possible space, find the right job here, in the right apartment. But honestly, what we’re looking forward to now is being able to date in the same city. And I really just wanted more time to focus on my relationship with James. I want to be able to pick him up from school and meet his friends at home. Those are the things in everyday life that I’m happy to be here and be a part of.

Allio: We are both very intentional with our actions and what we want out of life. We don’t necessarily feel the time pressure that may be imposed by the audience or the program has set. We’re going to march 100% to our own drums and I think that’s what suits us best. So those are all the little moments that we can now share together and start building memories as a couple, which I can’t wait to see.

Maltby: I am very excited. Long distance is fun and all, but if we want this relationship to work, we have to be closer.

Allio: I was delighted to see her and James’ relationship blossom. They have this great connection. I picked him up from school yesterday, and he said, “Where’s Danielle?” And I was like, “She’s coming on Wednesday.” And he said, “You said two days!” I was like, “Yeah, it was Monday.” He was very excited when he saw her. Last time when Danielle was in town, we saw her off at the airport, and James was in the back seat, and he said, “Danielle, when you get there, would you like us to call you, please? make sure you ‘OK, that you have someone to talk to?

Maltby: “You can hear our voices.”

Allio: He’s just the sweetest kid in the world, and they have a beautiful, healthy relationship, and it’s just getting started.

Maltby: He is my little friend.

Michael, you obviously know Greg from Katie’s season. One of the key moments in the finale was when Victoria and Greg talked about their relationship. What do you think about that?

Allio: Greg and I are good friends. I know that he comes from a really good place. Where people care about this are timelines and only they know the timeline. What I’m going to say is, we’ve both been trying to find love – it’s hard to find. If you can find your happiness in any way possible, then you have to go find it. And I’m also a big Johnny’s fan. He’s a wonderful, wonderful person.

Maltby: He’s a really good guy.

Allio: The whole situation is just tough. I hope that everyone involved with it can find some common ground and return to their own pursuit of happiness.

Sierra reacted on social media to a conversation Danielle and Kaitlyn Bristowe had recently on her podcast, prompting Kaitlyn to apologize to her. Has that been resolved yet?

Maltby: I was caught chatting with my girlfriend, and it wasn’t fair to talk about something I wasn’t there. Michael’s relationship with Sierra was resolved when I got down there, and I felt really terrible for hurting her feelings. So just wish her nothing but the best moving forward. I’m really happy to spend my vacation with my guy.

Michael, there’s speculation that you might have been good as a Bachelor. Why did? heaven a better fit for you?

Allio: For me, filming time with Bachelor in Heaven much less commitment and seemingly success rate for Bachelor in Heaven more suitable for what I’m looking for. You can spend more time with people when you go down to the beach. As someone who was on Katie’s season, you don’t have to spend that much time and for me, at my age, timing is important if you’re really trying to dial in and find that person. I thought after leaving Katie’s season that it was all in the back, and I’m glad it wasn’t because I found you. You never know where this crazy road leads. You just keep walking.

Have you recently talked to Brandon and Serene, who also began their love story this season?

Maltby: I don’t really have a second to text them because I went to bed at 9. I didn’t even watch last night because I knew I had to get up early to drive. It’s really on my to-do list. I come here, put on my makeup and sit down and talk to you guys.

Allio: I sent Brandon a message. They were made for each other. Since day one, they’ve been magnetic towards each other and you can feel it. It’s great to see everything unfold on camera. It’s really nice to be able to share a part of my life with everyone. It’s just beautiful.

Maltby: Maybe we’ll do a family trip to Disney! (laugh.) Parents and children.

Allio: Right! We have no doubt that they will make a great couple in the future.
