Man United accused of not controlling players during match

Manchester United have been accused by the Football Association of failing to control its players during Sunday’s 0-0 draw with Newcastle.

United players angrily protested to referee Craig Pawson after he ruled out Cristiano Ronaldo’s goal shortly after half-time.

The official included the incident in his match report, which led to the FA’s impeachment on Tuesday.

“It is alleged that Manchester United FC failed to ensure their players proceed in an orderly manner throughout the 49th minute of this match,” the governing body said.

United manager Erik ten Hag refused to publicly criticize Pawson’s performance, despite Ronaldo seeing another goal disqualified and Jadon Sancho’s penalty claim denied.

“Everybody watched the match,” Ten Hag told reporters after the game. “It’s your job to judge the teams’ performances and not from the recommenders, not me, so I won’t do that.”

United have until October 20 to respond to the charge.
