Man detained by police after he ‘ran up to Queen’s coffin’ in Westminster Hall | UK News

A man has been detained by police after a witness said he “ran to the Queen’s coffin” in Westminster Hall.

Witness Tracey Holland told Sky News: “Some people decided they were going to push [seven-year-old niece] out, run up to the coffin, raise the bar and try to do something I don’t know.

“She was grabbed onto the street and the police caught him within two seconds.

She added: “Terrible, absolutely horrible, so disrespectful and unbelievable – and this poor 7-year-old, this is her lasting memory of the Queen.”

The Metropolitan Police said: “At around 10pm on Friday 16 September, officers from the Met’s Parliamentary and Diplomatic Guard Command arrested a man at Westminster Hall following a disturbance.

“He was arrested for an offense under the Public Order Act and is currently in custody.”

A parliamentary spokesman said: “We are aware of an incident at Westminster Hall in which a member of the public was moved out of the queue and towards the catafalque.

“They have now been removed from the halls and the queue is restarted with minimal disruption.”
