Man arrested after a California high school student was stabbed to death by an intruder, police say

Stockton Unified School District officials said the girl was stabbed by an intruder at Stagg High School.

A school employee was present at the scene and quickly brought the suspect to custody. County spokeswoman Melinda Meza said: “He was not fighting when he was arrested.

Anthony Gray, 52, was arrested in connection with the stabbing and sent to the San Joaquin County Jail, according to a post on The Stockton Police Department (SPD) Facebook account. Gray will be charged with murder, according to the post.

Online prison records show Gray is being held without bail and is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday afternoon.

CNN was not able to immediately determine if Gray had an attorney.

Police did not release the victim’s name, but her family determined she was CNN branch KCRA as 15-year-old girl Alicia Reynaga.

“My daughter doesn’t have any enemies… she’s a good kid, a great kid… I just feel like it’s a dream. We’re just trying to wake up,” she said. Manuel Reynaga, Alicia’s father, told KCRA at the vigil for his daughter Monday night.

Officials said a team of advisors has been sent to Stagg High School and other schools in the county to assist students and staff.

Detectives are investigating the attack and are working to determine a motive and whether there is any relationship to the victim, according to SPD Deputy Superintendent Eric Kane.

“This remains an active investigation and we will release more information as it becomes available,” the SPD post said.
