KUALA LUMPUR: India’s Excellent Space Shuttle saina Nehwal and Kidambi SrikanthTheir bad streak continued as they were knocked out in the first round at the inaugural Malaysian Open here on Tuesday.

The surrender of the former world number one Srikanth has been tamed. The world championship silver medalist, who has also been struggling recently, was stunned by Kenta Nishimoto of Japan 19-21 14-21 in 42 minutes.
Srikanth, ranked 13th, fought hard in the opening game, but Nishimoto took the lead.
The two players drew 12-12 in the second game but the Japanese player gave up since then.
It is also the curtains for Akarshi Kashyap who was overtaken 10-21 8-21 by Van Chi Tu of Chinese Taipei in the women’s singles opening match.
At the end of the day, the women’s doubles event Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand will take on Yeung Nga Ting of Hong Kong and Yeung Pui Lamand, Krishna station and Vishnuvardhan Panjala will launch a campaign against Korea’s Kang Min Hyuk and Seo Seung Jae in the men’s doubles round 1.
