ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV) – A local doctor known for providing medical marijuana cards is now facing illegal drug charges.
Dr. Zinia Thomas is a licensed psychiatrist in the state of Missouri, but earlier this month, police said she was in illegal possession of large quantities of marijuana and ecstasy.
News 4 investigators have met Dr. Zinia Thomas before. Her patient calls her Dr. Z.
In 2019, our crew went undercover when she went on her Cannibus tour to a store in Festus. KMOV staff members filled out a form and although they had never been seen in person by Dr. Z, she diagnosed one of them with a debilitating mental disorder, so that they were eligible. medical marijuana card case.
In fact, she did it for everyone who was there that day. Now, not only does she prescribe drugs as a doctor, she is also accused of illegally possessing them.
On September 1, a soldier said they pulled Thomas over a black Bentley in Wayne County, southeast Missouri. They say she drank 256 bottles of cannabis cocktails. And they also claimed she was in possession of 10 pills of a substance that had been tested for ecstasy a few days earlier in a neighboring county.
She was sent to prison and released. Her attorneys wrote in court documents that they plan to fight the charges, claiming that the drugs were illegally seized.
We checked with the state. As of Friday, Thomas listed a licensed practitioner without any current disciplinary status. She told News 4 Investigates that she doesn’t make a ton of money from medical marijuana.
“Nothing more than what I did in my other practice,” Thomas said in a previous interview with News 4 Investigates. “Doctors make a lot of money.”
Her next court appearance is next month.
We will update for you.
