Liquor sale at Delhi airport: Domestic terminals may soon have vends again


A senior official told PTI when the airport management had suggested shops for Delhi Tourism and Transport Development Corporation (DTTDC) to open liquor vending shops, so the sale of alcohol at the restaurants Delhi airport’s domestic terminal will start soon.

After August 31, no alcohol will be sold at the airport’s domestic terminals as the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government has canceled the excise policy for 2021–2022. Six liquor stores, run by a private company under the old excise policy, can be found at the airport’s domestic terminals. Domestic terminals are required to open 10 liquor stores under the policy.

The government of Arvind Kejriwal received requests from three-quarters of shops to open vending machines at the domestic terminals of Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI). Some of those stores can offer high-end full-size auto shops with more than 1,000 square feet of floor space, according to employees.

The Arvind Kejriwal administration withdrew the Excise Policy 2021–22 in July after Lieutenant Colonel Governor VK Saxena asked the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to investigate alleged rule violations and procedural errors. continue during execution.

The DTTDC unsuccessfully attempted to hire privately owned stores to operate liquor stores that closed after August 31.
